A Nigerian lawyer, Michael Kayode Situ has been elected as the Deputy Mayor of Southwark, United Kingdom.
Situ’s father, who died in 2011, the late Tayo Situ, was Mayor of the same Borough.
Honoured to be appointed The Deputy Mayor of Southwark for the municipal year. I look forward to working with the Mayor in shinning a light on the amazing work done by residents, groups and charities in the borough. My door is open to all.”
Situ is of the Labour Party.
Situ’s late father was from Iwo, Osun State.
In his reaction, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrsheed Adewale Akanbi, congratulated Michael Kayode Situ, on his recent attainment of Deputy Mayor of Southwark, London.
“I extend the felicitation to his immediate family in Iwo (The Olowes), Iwoland, Osun State, Nigeria and the Black race in general. I’ve no doubt in his ability to make us proud, even beyond his father, Tayo Situ, who passed away as duly elected mayor in 2011 may his soul rest in perfect peace.”
The monarch said Michael Situ is a resilient and result oriented product of Iwo whose administrative prowess will add more value to Southwark.
“As you take up this assignment, I pray for wisdom greater than that of Solomon to do better and wonderfully serve your municipal than your late father who was equally our pride. God will continue to guide and lead you through,” Oluwo prayed
