Thousands of commuters were on Wednesday left stranded in heavy traffic gridlock as trucks drivers allegedly block the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The traffic disruption reportedly started after one of the truck driver blocked both lanes at the Ogere Remo toll gate along the expressway.
The driver was claimed to have carried out the act in protest against what he described as extortion by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
He alleged that the FRSC officers had seized his truck battery, prompting him to obstruct traffic on the Ibadan-bound side of the highway.
The development had attracted other truck drivers who in solidarity with their colleague, joined the disruption by extending the blockade to the Lagos-bound section.
This led to the complete standstill along the busy expressway.
According to reports, efforts by the Police and the Nigerian Army reportedly to intervene proved abortive as they were thwarted by the gathered crowd.
