The recently released Nollywood movie, Oversabi Aunty, has recorded a strong run at the Nigerian box office, grossing N382.9 million in 11 days to emerge as the second biggest film of the weekend.
The movie, which is distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, has continued to draw large audiences nationwide, underscoring its growing appeal and solid performance in cinemas.
In a post shared on its official Instagram page, FilmOne thanked audiences across West Africa for the impressive turnout, describing the film’s box office showing as a major milestone.
“Thank you, West Africa,” the distributor said, noting that Oversabi Aunty had crossed N380 million in box office receipts within 11 days, reinforcing its status as one of the top-performing Nollywood releases currently in cinemas.
According to reports, the film’s sustained performance highlights the strong appetite for locally produced titles and reflects continued cinema traffic across the country.
With its steady momentum, Oversabi Aunty is expected to remain a notable attraction in cinemas nationwide in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, the latest feat is coming days after the movie’s producer and actress, Toyin Abraham, called out Nigerian cinemas over poor allocation and scheduling of showtime.
Abraham accused the cinemas of sharp practices ticket sales and showtime allocation.
“Some people will go to the cinema; you will tell them that Over Sabi Aunty is sold out so that they call watch another movie.
“Meanwhile, Over Sabi Aunty is not sold out. A lot of things are going on. Look at showtime, you will give one person one show. How will the person make money?
“I produced a good film. I directed and did a lot of contents, a lot of publicity so that people can come to the cinema. Imagine giving someone one show, how will the person make money?” She had said in a video shared on X last week.
Abraham further slammed the cinemas over scheduling of the movie which, according to her, mostly fall on periods where viewers’ turnout is mostly likely to be low.
“Even if you are giving two or three shows, you will give someone 10am. Who is awake by 10am during festive period? Then the next show will be 9pm. Who wants to watch a movie till 11pm or 12am?” The visibly enraged actress added.
