Former Governors, House of Representatives former Speaker and other stalwarts are gathering in Enugu today as former Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party Mr. Peter Obi declares for the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Obi who contested for the 2023 Presidential election under the Labour Party is set to formally move to the ADC, bringing an end to speculations surrounding his political affiliation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
While holding the Labour Party’s membership candidate, the former Anambra state governor had formed part of the National Opposition Coalition Group (NOCG) which adopted the ADC back in July.

Obi had joined former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and other opposition leaders in adopting the party.
With Atiku, El-Rufai, and majority of the opposition leaders formally joing the ADC from their previous political parties, Obi has decided to follow suit as he arrived at Enugu ahead of the official defection to the party.
Videos shared on X showed moment the former Anambra governor arrived at the venue of the event with ADC leaders and supporters receiving him.

Among known former political office holders who are currently in Enugu, are former Senate President David Mark, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and a one-time Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal, Chief Adolphus Wabara and former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha.
Also present at the event is former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The choice of Enugu for Obi’s declaration is said to be informed by the fact that Enugu was the heart and political capital of the South East of Nigeria.
