An Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, on Wednesday, sentenced one Jimoh Elegbede, 34, to a term of five years imprisonment, for stealing items worth N20 million
Elegbede, was convicted on a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. K. Araba, held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, and consequently, found the defendant guilty as charged.
Delivering judgment, Araba sentenced the convict to a term of one year imprisonment on count one, five years imprisonment on count two, and five year imprisonment on count three, without option of fine.
She ordered that the sentences should run concurrently.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between September and October 2025, at 11:00 p.m., at No. 3, Toyin Agbemiga Crescent, Bode Olude, Abeokuta.
He said that the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit the offences.
The prosecutor told the court that Jimoh unlawfully broke and entered into the house of one Alhaja Mojisola Daramola in her absence with intent to commit a felony.
The prosecutor said that the defendant stole several household items belonging to the complainant, including a 42-inch smart television, refrigerator, and generator, inverter system.
Others items included Gas cylinders, solar table fan, cooking utensils, jewellery, native attires, kitchenware among other valuables.
He said that the stolen items were valued at N20 million.
The prosecutor added that the convict was arrested while trying to sell some of the stolen items.
He said that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 390, 411 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State 2006. NAN
