Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has dumped the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), citing deepening internal crises and the need to safeguard the broader interest of the people of Kano State.
Yusuf announced his decision in a letter to the Chairman of Diso-Chiranchi Ward, NNPP, Gwale Local Government Area, effective Friday, Jan. 23,2026.
As contained in a statement issued by his Spokesperson Sanusi Bature, in Kano on Friday, the Kano Governor expressed gratitude to the party for the platform and support extended to him since 2022.
Yusuf however cited persistent internal disputes and legal challenges as reasons for his resignation, stating that the internal disagreements had widened divisions and weakened cohesion within the party.
He emphasised that his decision was guided by public interest considerations and taken in good faith without bitterness.
According to reports, the governor resigned along with 21 members of the State House of Assembly, 8 members of the House of Representatives, and 44 Local Governments’ Chairmen of Kano State.
