A total of 790 delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party are set to determine who the presidential candidate of the party would be for the 2023 election.
Of these, 460 delegates are from the Northern sphere while 360 of them are of the Southern stock.
Analysts believe that the odds are in favour of the aspirants from the North against those from the South.
Aspirants jostling for the presidential ticket of the party from the North are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohamme and former FSB Managing Director, Muhammed Hayatu-Deen.
Those from the Southern part of the country include Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, His Akwa Ibom State counterpart, Emmanuel Udom; former Governor of Ekiti, Ayo Fayose, media entreprenure, Dele Momodu, former Senate President, Pius Anyim and the only woman in the race, Mrs. Diana Teriela.
A major contender, Mr. Peter Obi opted out of the party three days ago and has declared his membership of the Labour Party.
Among the crowd, Atiku appears to be the most prominent having been vice president and ran for the presidency twice.
Atiku, Saraki also appears to have enjoyed some national appeal and with some visible structures across the country. But in all, Atiku has a nationwide tentacle.
From the South, only Wike is the strongest aspirant from the region with the believe he has the financial war-chest to push for victory.
Delegates for the election have been arriving at the Federal Capital Territory since Friday ahead of the exercise.
