A Rivers-based lady has been allegedly assaulted by the Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area of the state, Eugene Chitta, over her social media post where she called out the council chairman on the plight of students in a dilapidated secondary school at the council.
The lady whose name is yet to be confirmed as at the time of filing this report had recorded a video showing the ordeal of the students in a classroom with damaged roof and no window.
She had also decried the dearth of teachers in the school as well as mass withdrawal of students by their parents.
“The future of this country is in the hands of these youths. And if they don’t have a solid background in education, then our future will be faulted.
“We are calling on the chairman Honourable Eugene Chitta Epelle, the Executive Chairman of Ahoada West, to come to the rescue of these children. They need chairs, doors, windows, and general renovation.
“The school is no longer conducive. They don’t even have teachers. Before now, they have over 1,000 students in this school. Now, they can’t even boast on a hundred.” The lady had said in the video.
This was followed by pictures of her bloodied face as she was attacked by mobs allegedly sent by Eugene.
The development had since sparked outrage from netizens who condemned the attack.
“A decent man would not act with recklessness like he did. There is no difference between him and a motor park tout. He assaulted a Nigerian trying to help fix his incompetence. He acted like a street urchin.”@carpusdew
