Former presidential spokesperson, Reno Omokri, has opened up on his confirmation as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.
NPO Reported that President Bola Tinubu had yesterday confirmed the posting of the 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career ambassadors to all Nigerian Embassies across the world.
As contained in deployment list released by the President, Omokri who was appointed as a non-career ambassador was posted to Mexico City.
Reacting to the development in a video shared on his X handle on Saturday, the former presidential aide expressed his gratitude to Tinubu for the deployment.
Omokri, in the video recorded before commencing his climbing of the Mount Kilimanjaro summit in Tanzania, promised to serve the best interest of Nigeria in Mexico with all honesty and in faithfulness.
“Mr. President, I’m very grateful and I thank you for this. I’m overwhelmed with joy and I promise to be faithful, loyal, and honest to Nigeria. and to the custodian of the Nigerian constitution.” He said.
Speaking on his reason for embarking on the trip to Mount Kilimanjaro, Omokri claimed he had taken up the challenge in a bid to correct the negative propaganda about Nigeria, particularly on insecurity.
The ambassador talked down the security threats in the country as he recalled the festivities held in the country in December and earlier this year.
Omokri held that the events had attracted millions of tourists with no death or attack on any tourist reported.
“I’m doing this because recently, there is being a lot of negative propaganda about Nigeria, especially about insecurity.
“I’m going to tell you about Nigeria using facts, using statistics.
“Last year December, Nigeria had the single largest touristic event in Africa, Detty December. 1.2 million tourists visited Lagos Nigeria. Not one was robbed, not one was killed. No domestic incident.
“We also had a situation last year. We had Ojude Oba festival. 200,000 tourists came to Nigeria. Not one was killed, not one was robbed. No domestic incident.
“In February this year, we had the Argungi fishing festival. 50,000 farmers and 50,000 fishermen were gathered ina place called Argungi in Kebbi state to play for 500,000 spectators. Not one person was killed, not one person was robbed. No domestic incident.” He said.
Omokri further maintained that Nigeria is politically and economically stable while claiming that it is the only country in Africa that has five former Presidents living in the country alongside the current President.
“Nigeria is politically stable and economically prosperous. That is why Nigeria is the only country in Africa where you have five former Presidents and Heads of States living in Nigeria with the incumbent peacefully.” He said.
