World football governing body, FIFA, has slammed a 1,000 Swiss Franc, estimated to be N1.7 million, on the Super Eagles of Nigeria over infractiona during the 2026 World Cup African qualifiers final against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a latest report released by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, the organisation fined the Nigerian team after supporters were found throwing objects during the November 16 high-stakes encounter.
While they might scaled through to next round of qualifiers after knocking Nigeria out in penalty shootout, DR Congo however had their fair share in FIFA’s sanction.
They were handed a heavier fine of 5,000 Swiss Francs (CHF) for the use of laser pointers by fans.
This, according to the disciplinary committee served as a direct breach of FIFA safety and security regulations.
FIFA reiterated its “zero tolerance” policy regarding spectator misconduct and stadium security.
Meanwhile, the world football governing body still remain silenced over Nigeria’s petition against DR Congo for allegedly fielding ineligible players.
With the Leopard already named in the intercontinental qualifiying eound fixtures, the Super Eagles chance of qualifying appeared to be going down the drain for the time with their woes compounded by the fine.
