The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amuptian, has harped on the need for national stability and security in ensuring integrity of elections in Nigeria.
Amupitan made this known while receiving a delegation from the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Security Studies (AANISS) at the INEC’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
The INEC Chairman, as quoted in a statement issued on the commission’s official X handle, noted that there is a critical link between national security and credible elections.
“The integrity of elections is directly connected to national stability and security. Ensuring credible elections remains a top priority as Nigeria continues to deepen its democratic process,” Amupitan said.

He assured the association of the Commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections through innovative approaches and sustained collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders.
Earlier in his address, AANIS President, Mike Ejiofor, said the institute’s courtesy visit to INEC was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the electoral body and Nigeria’s security institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“With the enormous expectations placed on INEC as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections, it is important that the Commission is represented in the course to enhance strategic coordination on electoral security,” Ejiofor said.
