Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is set to dump the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
While the NNPP chieftain had in recent weeks been seen with politicians from opposition parties, especially from the ADC camp, his support group, the Kwankwasiyya Movement, would confirm the speculations of his possible defection to the ADC.
As contained in a notice posted on X on Saturday, the Kwankwasiyya Movement announced that Kwankwaso will officially defect and register with the ADC on Monday.
The official defection is set to take place by 12pm at Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Bompai, Kano.
Meanwhile, Kwankwaso’s defection will mark a final end to the reign of the NNPP in Kano State considering the defection the earlier defection of the state governor, Abba Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Yusuf’s defection to the APC had further cemented his fallout with his predecessor, Kwankwasso.
With his successor’s defection also likely dent his influence in the state under NNPP, Kwankwaso resorted to visitation and hosting of opposition politicians.
He paid a courtesy visit to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, before hosting the 2023 Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi in Kano state last week.
These signaled his potential defection from the NNPP.
