A torrent rainstorm has left hundreds of Osogbo residents devasted as several of properties were damaged at the Osun state’s capital city.
While the rainfall only lasted barely 15 minutes o. Saturday night, it however left behind a trail of destructuction and lasting damages with several properties and public infrastructures affected.
Videos capturing havoc wrecked by the storm shower several buildings with the roofs completely ripped off.
Several trees, billboards, and electric poles were also uprooted with cables seen sprawling across the road.
Another clip showed a car parked by thr roadside with shattered glasses, a development attributed to the impact of the rainstorm.

Reacting to the development in a statement issued on Sunday, the Osun State government expressed its condolences to the residents of the affected areas.
The affected areas as highlighted in the statement issued by Prof. Chinwe Obuaku, the Special Envoy of the Governor of Osun State on Climate Change and Renewable Energy, include Aregbe Junction, Oke-Fia, Ogo-Oluwa, and Osogbo Grammar School.
Fortunately, no casualty, according to the state government, was recorded in the course of the havoc.
While extending condolences to affected residents, institutions and businessowners whose kiosks and establishments were also destroyed, the state government disclosed that the rainstorm was predicted last year with some pro-active measures recommended.

“We are particularly concerned about the reported damages across key locations including Aregbe Junction, Oke-Fia, Ogo-Oluwa, and Osogbo Grammar School, where critical infrastructure such as houses, billboards, fences, electric poles, kiosks, and other structures were impacted.
“While we are grateful that no lives were lost, the scale of disruption to livelihoods and property is deeply acknowledged.
“Preliminary assessments indicate that the incident was caused by a combination of intense rainfall and strong winds – conditions that align with the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), which highlights increased rainfall variability, early-season storms, and elevated temperatures across the South-West region.
“It is important to note that prior to this event, the Osun State Government – guided by NiMet projections, had already initiated a number of proactive measures to mitigate anticipated climate risks.” The statement partly read.
The proactive measures taken by the state government, as highlighted in the statement , include, pre-season climate risk advisories to relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies; and preliminary identification of flood-prone zones across key urban centres, including Osogbo.
Others include early-stage drainage maintenance planning and targeted desilting in selected high-risk corridors; ongoing integration of climate data into state planning processes, particularly within environment, urban development, and infrastructure sectors.
Community stakeholders were also reportedly engaged with coordinated efforts aimed at strengthening preparedness across agencies.
