Another elevator malfunction has claimed the life of an Abuja-based lawyer, Barrister Abdulsalam Ginsau, who is suspected to have died of suffocation after being trapped in an elevator.
The tragic incident in an undisclosed hotel on Monday.
According to an eyewitness, Ginsau was said to have remained stuck in the lift for a prolonged period, with early suspicions pointing to suffocation as the cause of death.
However, the exact circumstances surrounding the death of the legal practitioner is yet to be confirmed by the authorities, as it remains unclear whether it was caused by a power outage or a mechanical fault.
No official statement has been issued by the hotel management.
Meanwhile, friends and colleagues have taken to social media to mourn his passing.
“The passing of Barrister Abdulsalam Umar Ginsau has left me with a deep sense of loss and reflection,” one Usamatu Zango wrote.
“To many, he was a teacher; but to me and countless others, he was a mentor, a guide, and a source of inspiration whose impact will never fade. Though he is no longer with us, his teachings and his impact remain alive in my heart. Allah Ya Jikan Malam Da Rahama Ya Gafarta Masa Ameen.”
The development had however raised fresh concerns about safety standards in public facilities on account of repeated cases of incident across the country.

The incident which occurred last month saw five residents trapped in the machine with one of the residents who narrated their ordeal in a viral video disclosed that they have been trapped in the elevator for over 40 minutes.
In December last year, a disturbing video showed an Abuja-based woman and her two children trapped in a store elevator following power outage.
The middle-aged woman and her children were alongside other two other customers of the store identified as Sahad Stores stranded in the elevator while on shopping at the store.
