President Bola Tinubu has suspended his planned visit to Ogun state and now set to head to Jos, Plateau state’s capital, for a condolence visit to victims of Sunday’s gunmen attack.
This is coming amid reignited calls for the President’s provision of lasting solution to the insecurity challenge across the country.
NPO Reported that the gunmen had on Sundsy evening stormed Angwan Rukuba communitu in Jos North Local Government Area, killing over 30 people with several others injured.
The attack had sparked public outrage and escalated into civil unrest and violent clashes across the Plateau capital city.
As against his initial plan to visit Ogun for the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport, Tinubu, in a statement issued on his X handle on Wednesday, announced the suspension of the trip.
He disclosed that he will rather be in Jos to commiserate with the families of the deceased victims.
“I have postponed my trip to Iperu, Ogun State. My first duty at this moment is to stand with the people of Plateau.
“I will be in Jos to commiserate with families who have lost loved ones and to reaffirm that those who seek to spread fear will not prevail.
“We will continue to strengthen our security response and ensure that justice is done.” The President wrote.
Tinubu said he will thereafter proceed to Lagos to observe Good Friday before heading to Ogun and Bayelsa states for his planned engagement.
“From Plateau, I will proceed to Lagos to observe Good Friday, and then continue with scheduled engagements in Ogun, Lagos, and Bayelsa focused on infrastructure, trade, and economic growth.
“In moments of grief, we must stand together. In moments of progress, we must keep building.
“The work continues. Nigeria First.” He added.
