The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has broken silence over the destruction of the recently commissioned Kugbo Bus Terminal.
NPO Reported that a heavy rainstorm had earlier this month ripped off roof of the terminal, scattering the debris across the road.
This had sparked mixed reactions from members of the public with netizens raising speculations over the quality of materials used in building the multi-billion Naira infrastructure.
Reacting to the development while addressing newsman during a project inspection on Monday, Wike maintained that it was only the roof of the bus terminal that was affected as the structure of the facility itself remain intact.
The Minister labelled the damage a natural disaster which he claimed to often occur across developed nations.
“It did not collapse. The kind of wind we saw was never imagined. Remember, that bus terminal at Kugbo is on top of the hill. It is higher than most of the buildings you see there.
“The wind blew off the roofing sheet. Remember we did not use ordinary wood.
“They used steel to tell you how strong that wind was. It just took off all the roofing sheet. It did not affect the structure.
“There was no collapse of any sort. It happens all over some countries. So, people should that.” He said, adding that the roof is currently undergoing reconstruction.
On possible sanctioning of the contractor awarded the project, Wike dismissed the talk as he reiterated that the incident was a natural disaster beyond any man’s control.
“Why will I sanction the contractor? If the building was collapsed, then we can talk about the structure.
“Then, I have to sanction him. But this is nature. Look at overseas, wind will just come and you will buildings being destroyed-even trees. We thank God that people did not die.” He added.
