The chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan popularly called YAYI has been announced as the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress for the next election in the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun made the announcement Monday evening at a stakeholders meeting held in Abeokuta the state capital.
The announcement of the Senator from Ogun West puts paid to the ambitions of many other governorship aspirants on the platform of the party who had called on the party leaders to allow for a free and fair primaries among the competiting aspirants.
Prominent among other aspirants for the party’s flag are a member of the House of Representatives Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, former Ambassador to the United Kingdom Sarafa Ishola; a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Tunde Lemo and daughter of former President Iyabo Obasanjo.
As against the call of other aspirants, Abiodun would at the express his delight with the consensus decision as he announced Adeola as the APC flagbearer.
“Nothing will give me more joy than to fulfill all the dreams of my predecessors and ensure that the one, West produces governor; two, I sit down at my sendforth that will be attended by my successor, and I also sit down proudly with all my former governors at the swearing-in of a new governor of APC.
“On that note, permit me to unveil the person we’ve all decided. He is truly deserving to be the next flag bearer of our dear state, distinguished Senator Olamilekan Adeola.” He said.
The announcement by by the governor caused a loud applause among supporters of the senator who were present while supporters of other aspirants who were present did not applaud the announcement.
