The sister of late National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) member, Abdulsalam Jamiu, has recounted how her brother was killed by soldiers barely a month to the completion of his service year.
NPO Reported that soldiers attached to the Guard Brigade of the Nigerian Army had on Saturday shot Jamiu dead at his family resident in Dei Dei Shagari Quarters in Abuja.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred around 2am with the Army in a statement issued on Sunday claiming that the corp member was caught in crossfire between the soldiers and suspected armed robbers.
This was however refuted by the family as they released a comprehensive account of the incident, alleging that the soldiers had scaled through the fence and fired two gunshots at Jamiu’s room.
The bullet was reported to have pierced through the door and hit the late corp member in the head, killing him instantly.
While the family had demanded justice for the late corp member, her sister would again recount the incident in a video shared on X on Monday.
The lady disclosed that her brother was expected to complete his service next month before his untimely death.
“Around 2am, they just broke into somebody’s house, went straight into the guy’s room and shot the door twice. They burst his head.
“A guy that will be done with service next month. They flew through the fence and they went inside.” She said.
Jamiu’s sister further questioned the army’s claim of chasing thieves in the estate as she maintained that they deliberately jumped into the compound and went straight to Jamiu’s room.
She disclosed that her brother was sleeping at the time of the soldier’s raid.
“They said they were chasing thieves around. Then you jumped into somebody’s house. How will you be chasing thieves and jump into somebody’s house and went straight to the guy’s room and shoot him.
“He was even sleeping without knowing what was going on. They shot him not once but twice. These people are too wicked.
“Nigerians soldiers have the gut to just go and shoot people and even went to police station to claim it was just a mistake.
“What is the mistake for? You cleaned the blood from the floor. You cleaned the blood because the parents weren’t around.” She added.
