The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has described the appointment of Maj.-Gen. Adeyinka Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security to President Bola Tinubu as well-deserved.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, Mr Moses Olafare, on Monday in Ile-Ife.
Ogunwusi said that the appointment was a recognition of Famadewa’s years of sacrifice, professionalism and outstanding contribution to the country’s security architecture.
The Ooni, while congratulating Famadewa, urged him to continue to distinguish himself as one of the finest sons of Ile-Ife through his dedication to national service and commitment to the security and unity of Nigeria.
“You are indeed a proud son of Ile-Ife whose remarkable service to the nation has brought honour and pride to the Source,” Ogunwusi stated.
The traditional ruler commended President Tinubu for finding Famadewa worthy of the strategic national assignment.
He expressed confidence in the retired military officer’s ability to bring his vast experience in intelligence coordination, counter-terrorism and national security management to bear in the new role.
The oba said that Famadewa’s over three decades of military experience, coupled with his role as Principal General Staff Officer to the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, had prepared him adequately for the responsibility.
Oba Ogunwusi also praised the appointee for his contributions to the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC), a coordinated intelligence-sharing platform involving major security agencies including the DSS, NIA, DIA, Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces.
According to him, the appointment reflects the confidence reposed in Famadewa’s expertise and integrity within Nigeria’s security establishment.
He further described the Ife-born retired general as a disciplined officer and strategic thinker whose research and policy contributions after retirement have continued to shape conversations around policing, civil-security cooperation and security sector reforms in the country.
The Royal Father prayed for wisdom, strength and divine guidance for Famadewa as he assumes the new office, urged him to continue serving the nation diligently while making Ile-Ife and the Yoruba race proud. NAN
