Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has decried alleged disenfranchisement at the party’s ongoing primaries in Oyo State.
The APC members who were from Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-West Local Government Areas stormed the party’s secretariat in Oke Ado area of Ibadan in protest over the alleged disenfranchisement.
Video shared on X showed the protesters agitating calling out the leaders of the party.
Some of the aggrieved members disclosed that they have been at the venue of the primaries since 6am with no officials present.
“We’ve been on the field since 6am. They went to converge elsewhere. We didn’t vote here in the Northwest.” one of the members said.
According to reports, the protesters alleged that in Wards 1 to 12 of Ibadan South West, ten people each were selected and taken to a separate location to sign documents, while in Ibadan North West, another ten people were allegedly picked and asked to sign without a proper electoral process.
They described the development as unjust and an indirect attempt to impose candidates on the constituency.
Reacting to the protest, Chairman of the primary committee in Oyo State, Mojeed Alabi, said grievances are expected in every electoral process.
Alabi urged the aggrieved members to channel their complaints to the party’s primary appeal committee after the election for proper consideration.
