A 400-level female final year student at the University of Osun, Grace Osunlakin, has tragically passed away over absence of oxygen at the school clinic.
Osunmakin died on Friday few hours after being rushed to the medical clinic in Ifetedo campus.
The death of the final-year student of Criminology and Security Studies had sparked outrage across the student community as Osunmakin was reported to have needed some oxygen to revive her after collapsing on campus.
In the wake of the incident, the UNIOSUN Student Union Government (SUG) Social Welfare Director, Mojitola Helen, stormed the clinic alongside other aggrieved students.
Speaking in a video shared on X, Mojitola disclosed that Osunmakin was rushed to the clinic after collapsing.
Sadly, the clinic was unable to revive the final-year student, who defended her project on Monday, as there was no oxygen in the facility.
‘We lost a 400-level female student. She just finished her defence on Monday which was 23rd of June 2026 and she died today 26th of June 2026.
“She had an attack and fainted. All she needed was oxygen, just oxygen to stabilse her and there was none in the clinic.
“We have no stabilizer, we have no oxygen, we have nothing.
“We lost Grace just because there was no oxygen to stabilise her. There was no oxygen in the whole Ifetedo medical facility.” The UNIOSUN student leader said.
She further disclosed the insufficiency of drugs at the facility as she recounted being directed to get a cramp relieving medicine outside the campus.
“The day I had cramps; they wrote medicine for me to go and get it in town.” She said.
Protest had since erupted in the campus as students called out the school management over the poorly equipped medical facility in the school.
Another video shared on X showed another student leader expressed his frustration over the inadequate facilities in the school.
The student leader, in his address, accused the school management of extorting them.
He demanded the release of the students by it they cannot provide basic amenities to cater for their welfare.
“They told us they built hostel and it is not functioning. UNIOSUN you are killing us here.
“We are tired of this school. Our parents trust this school. That is why we are here.
“We don’t have an ambulance here. We are dying every year. If you know you cannot do anything, just release us.
“You built clinic that is not functioning. no nurses or doctors we paid school fees and everything.
“You are extorting us. We paid for everything here. We need help. If you can’t help us, then release us.” He said.
