Shell has pledged its support towards Nigeria’s efforts to build a secure energy future through sustained investments and efficient delivery of its businesses in the country.
The General Manager, Development and Subsurface, Shell Nigeria Deepwater, Kun Jiang, made this known while delivering the sponsor’s remarks at the 49th Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) in Lagos.
“We continue to invest in Nigeria’s future through our projects, our people, and our enduring confidence in the potential of this nation,” Kun said.
She highlighted current investments in Bonga North, HI and the advancement of Bonga Southwest as evidence of Shell’s confidence in Nigeria’s deepwater future.

Kun also said the recent launch of a three billion-dollar contract financing programme by Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) would help Nigerian contractors build capacity, create value and accelerate project delivery.
Shell is a major sponsor of the conference as part of its longstanding support for the professional body, which has contributed to the development of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
Speaking on the conference theme, “Thriving in the Evolving Global Energy Landscape: Collaborative Growth and Resilience,” Kun said Nigeria still has enormous opportunities despite geopolitical tensions, global supply chain disruptions, market volatility and shifting energy dynamics.
According to her, with a population of more than 240 million people, abundant natural resources, world-class talent and growing domestic energy needs, Nigeria has all the ingredients to become one of the world’s most attractive energy investment destinations.
She, however, noted that potential alone would not create prosperity, stressing that resources must be transformed into value and opportunities matched with action.
Kun said Nigeria must continue to attract capital, strengthen the business environment and embrace technology to unlock its full potential if it is to thrive in the evolving global energy landscape.
“The future will belong to countries and industries that combine resilience with innovation, ambition with collaboration and investment with execution excellence.
”Nigeria has the resources. Nigeria has the talent. Nigeria has the opportunity. What is required now is the collective determination to seize it,” she said.
As part of its participation at the conference, Shell mounted an exhibition with SNEPCo’s Senior Production Geologist, Abidemi Belgore, taking industry leaders and regulators on a tour of the company’s stand.
The exhibition showcased technological breakthroughs that have enhanced production at the Bonga field and supported the execution of the Bonga North project.
It also highlighted the full range of Shell’s businesses in Nigeria, including deepwater oil production, integrated gas, renewables, power solutions and its social investment programmes across the country.
