Davido Says Mayhem Has Nothing to With Governor
- Safiu Kehinde
Multiple gunshots rented the air in Osogbo, Osun State’s capital city, as suspected thugs allegedly attacked the convoy of state governor, Ademola Adeleke.
The governor was reported to have visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, shortly after his receiving the Certificate of Return days after his re-election.
However, Adeleke’s visit to the monarch would be met by fierce exchange of gunfire between the suspected thugs and the governor’s security personnel.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the assailants arrived in an unregistered Toyota Sienna bus through the Ita Olokan area of Osogbo.
According to reports, the shooting which commenced shortly after the governor left the palace, lasted about 12-15 minutes.
However, Nigerian afrobeat singer and cousin of the Osun governor, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, debunked reports that the attack was targeted at the governor.
Davido, in a post on his X handle, maintained that the clash occurred outside the palace and had nothing to do with Adeleke.
“Lies ! It was a fight outside the palace that had nothing to do with us ! The pple love excellency !” He wrote.
Meanwhile, the attack had further raised concern over the continued surge of violence in Osun which largely marred the build-up activities for the just-concluded governorship election.
