The Kaduna State Police Command says that no fewer than 75 kidnap victims have been rescued in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of the state.
The victims, comprising men, women and children, were abducted by armed men wielding AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons, the command said.
This was disclosed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Mansir Hassan, in a statement issued on Friday in Kaduna.
According to Hassan, the victims were traveling in commercial buses when they were abducted at Folwaya Village, near Birnin Gwari, on Aug. 19.
He said the command received credible information about the incident from the Birnin Gwari branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at about 5:30 p.m.
Hassan said the abductors took the victims into the forest and concealed them in a cave within a mountainous area.
“Upon receipt of the information, a crack team from the Birnin Gwari Area Command was immediately deployed to the location.
“On sighting the well-armed police operatives, the abductors fled, abandoning their captives, who were successfully rescued unharmed,” he said.
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the NURTW, Birnin Gwari branch, for providing timely and vital information.
Muhammad also commended the Area Commander, Birnin Gwari, and his operatives for their swift and professional response.
The commissioner urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the police.
He also cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, warning that such actions could lead to the loss of innocent lives.
The command assured residents of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property across the state
