- Safiu Kehinde
Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has revealed how late former Supreme Court judge, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, changed his perception about his son and veteran entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy.
Obasanjo, who made a surprise appearance on the YouTube interview show, Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by content creator, Bae U, recounted his first encounter with Charly Boy.
The former president in his address admitted initially disliking Charly Boy over his controversial lifestyle.
He however spoke in high regards about the entertainer’s father, disclosing that he had wished Charly Boy took after the former judge.
This, according to him, however changed the day he went to visit the late Oputa at Charly Boy’s residence.
‘Charely Boy is Jagajaga. Can you see a man who dresses like a woman. A gentleman who dresses like a bushman.
‘I ran away from him because he is too jaga jaga. But he has a good father. I wish Charley Boy resembles him. That man was one of the few Nigerians I respect when he was alive.
‘When I first came to know Charlie Boy, I had no iota of regard or respect for him.
‘But when I went to visit Justice Oputa and it was in Charley Boy’s house, I didn’t know it was Charlie Boy’s house.
‘The first thing that put me off in that house was that I saw a motorcycle in front of the house. The way the motorcycle was dress and all that, I said what is this.’ He said,
Obasanjo recounted witnessing how Charly Boy took good care of his father and mother which changed his perception about the singer.
‘And then I went inside the house. I saw how Justice Oputa was being taken care of. And by who. Charlie Boy.
‘I started changing my mind about Charlie Boy. And until Justice Oputa died, Charlie Boy took perfect care of him, looked after him, and he really behaved like a good child to his father.
‘He didn’t stop there, he did the same to his mother, and I used to frequently visit the mother who was a great humorous woman. Charlie Boy took care of her as well.
‘Then I started changing my mind about him.’ The ex-president said.
Meanwhile, he disclosed how he once questioned Charly Boy over his controversial lifestyle.
The singer, according to Obasanjo, said he only does the controversial things to earn a living for himself.
Obasanjo described Charly Boy as a very intelligent person, stressing that it takes intelligence to earn a living from being subject of controversies.
‘One day, I asked him and said, Charlie Boy, what is all this. He said all those jagajaga things that I see is to make chopchop.
‘And he is an intelligent boy despite all that jagajaga. You cannot do jagajaga to earn a living without being intelligent.
‘So, now I like him a bit. Not too much sha.’ He said.
Meanwhile, Obasanjo, in the 41-minute-long show thrilled the viewers with his sense of humour.
Obasanjo, like other guests on the show, played along with the host who he constantly trolled during the session.
The episode, which became widely anticipated after the thriller was dropped earlier Saturday, raked a total of 16,032 within one hour of its upload on Youtube.
