There is a huge controversy on social media as many have called for the head of business mogul Mr. Femi Otedola’s endorsement of the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Otedola had taken to his Twitter page to share photo of himself and Tinubu in France.
He had accompanied his message with a prayer where he called God to grant the desire of the APC candidate to emerge the next president.
The endorsement how however ignited a heated debate on social media.
Some have said that within few hours of his endorsement, Otedola has lost huge followers on the micro-blogging App.
The NPO Reports could not independently verify the exact number of followers lost by the businessman.
Investigative Reporter, Fisayo Soyombo in his comment, said Otedola’s endorsement of Tinubu might not be real politics but more of business.
He said, “Femi Otedola openly endorsing “his good friend Tinubu” is not politics but business. It’s about survival — not elections.
“It is the ‘business’ of business owners to quickly align with political powers that will guarantee the protection of their interests.
“I genuinely hope the poor/middle class can think about themselves too. Their survival isn’t the protection of multibillion dollar conglomerates but about the basics of food, shelter, clothing, electricity, security etc.
“I hope the masses will open their eyes and align with the politicians who will guarantee the protection of these interests.”
It is observed that majority of those condemning the action of the businessman are supporters of the Labour Party candidate Peter Obi.
A twitter user, AshiaAporodike, in his tweet stated, “Otedola by endorsing the guy who endorsed BUBU has just told Nigerians that the he is comfortable with the state of the nation and the pains of Nigerian youths means nothing.
We will not forget
In @PeterObi mandate we stand”
FS Yusuff, another twitter user, wrote “DJ Cuppy is in Oxford University, you are in Yaba Tech. ASUU strike can never affect her but ASUU strike can halt your destiny. Otedola has the right to endorse a candidate and u have the right to reject it. Think twice. Suffer no be life.”
Muhawiyah Yussuf Muye who however reasoned with Otedola’s action wrote “So for these guys to think the likes of Otedola and Dangote will endorse Peter Obi ahead of some one like BAT that politically and even business wise will bury him is funny. Further shows how deluded they are.”
Akin Akinwale, in his tweet said “I am disappointed in Femi Otedola sha, because of money he endorsed Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He is a poor man and I lost my respect for him. #TweetLikeOBIdients”
