Tomorrow looks gloomy with the nurturing of a new generation of terrorists who may have been born and brought into the Nigerian society by repentant terrorists.
A retired Army Officer and former Commander of the Operation Safe Haven, Augustine Agundun, stated this on Wednesday when he confirmed that no fewer than 35,000 children have come out with surrendered terrorists.
Speaking on a Channels TV live programme, Sunrise Daily, Agundun said with no clear-cut programmes of re-orientation for the repentant terrorists and the army of children that have returned with them, the country risks future more devastating incidents of terrorism.
“There are about 35,000 children who have returned with those repentant terrorists. Those children may be the next generation of terrorists if nothing is done,” he said on Wednesday
Calling for better inter-agency collaboration, the retired major general said he experienced it in Plateau state where he had the cooperation of the DSS and the police in tackling insecurity issues.
Asked if the issue of constant faceoff between operatives of some security agencies does not pose a problem for inter-agency collaborations, Agundun said few cases of clashes between soldiers and the police does not define the Nigerian security system.
He said the fact that some soldiers and policemen clash does not mean there is no cooperation between the two agencies.
“It does not rob off on the entire system. Yes, we have some alterations at the lower levels, it does not define who we are.
“We have to do it all together. What remains now is the issue of personal ego. Together we can get this job done.
