A building in the Bariga area of Lagos has collapsed while under renovation killing two brothers and injuring their mother.
The a water tank on the house under renovation was said to have came down and fell onto the roof of the next house falling into the room where the mother and her two children live.
Emergency officials who raced to the scene of the accident said the children died as a result of the impact of the fallen water tank.
Spokesman of the police in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, warned house owners to use qualified professionals to undertake construction jobs.
He attributed the tragedy to the lack of competence on the part of the workers.
“Do not use unqualified engineers! A water tank in a building under renovation fell through the roof of the next building, instantly killing two brothers, leaving their mother and one other injured. Do the right thing and get the right results,” Hundeyin said on Monday
According to report by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency(LASEMA) said the collapsed building is located on Adeleye street, Ladilak in the Bariga area of Lagos.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-, Osanyintolu confirmed the death of the children, adding that three adult males also sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.
“The Agency activated its response to the above incident and upon arrival at the incident scene, discovered that the tank scaffolding of a two-storey building collapsed on a bungalow beside it and affected two rooms.
“Unfortunately two children died from the impact.Three adult males sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.
“The Agency’s response team alongside Lagos State Fire and LASBCA are responders at the incident scene.”
