One person has been confirmed dead and many others injured in the early hours of Wednesday as a result of a clash between Oro traditional worshippers and members of a church who assembled for a vigil in the Oko Oba area of Lagos state.
The incident was confirmed by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in Lagos.
“Oro worshippers clashed with church members holding a vigil. It sadly resulted in the death of one person,” his post stated in the morning of Wednesday.
Hundeyin confirmed that suspects have been arrested.
Details of the incident were however not available as at the time of filing this report.
Attempt to speak with the Divisional Police Officer of Oko Oba Division, CSP Lewi Sulaiman were not successful as calls placed to his telephone line rang out.
He was yet to return NPO Reports’ calls before this report was filed.
But Hundeyin confirmed that those arrested would be charged for what he called “clearly a murder case.”
But the police spokesman wondered how to stop such clashes among religious groups in the future.
Details later…
