David Ukpo, the victim of the alleged organ harvesting involving Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, on Tuesday asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to set aside a rulling which ordered the release of his bio-data for use in a London Court in Ekweremadu’s trial.
Recall that Justice Inyang Ekwo had in July ordered the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Stanbic IBTC and United Bank for Africa to supply information on Ukpo to Ike Ekweremadu, former deputy senate president.
Faulting the rulling,Ukpo, through his legal team led by Bamidele Igbinedion, Ukpo accused Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, of violating his fundamental human rights,a fair hearing and personal privacy had been grossly breached.
He argued that former deputy senate president ought to have joined him and the Attorney General of the Federation AGF, the country’s Chief Law Officer, as parties in the suit
“The attorney-general of the federation was also not made a party to the suit to enable the interest of the Federal Government to be represented, seeing that the effect of the order was to be utilized in a foreign country, namely the United Kingdom,” the affidavits attached to the application read.
“The applicant became aware of the said ruling through social media reports on Facebook and the applicant was deeply aggrieved with the said order(s).”
The defendants in the motion are National Identity Management Commission, Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Stanbic IBTC bank, United Bank for Africa, and Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System.
The applicant is praying the Court to restrain the defendants, their agents, privies, staff, and workers from releasing any information concerning him to Ekweremadu and his wife for their defense in the London Court.
