The Lagos State Police Command has said that a woman seen in a viral video assaulting a police officer in FESTAC area of Lagos State will be prosecuted.
The Command’s Spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a tweet on Sunday said those defending the woman should be to serve as witnesses when the matter opens in court.
In the said video, the woman was seen challenging and rough-handling a police officer in uniform who also had a gun with him.
The lady claimed in the video that the policeman had threatened to gun her down, which led to her reaction.
No part of the video showed where the policemen made his alleged threat.
Hundeyin, while reacting to those commenting on the video online said,
“I see the defence people are putting up in the comment section. I do hope her lawyer remembers them during trial. She’ll get a fair hearing. The court will decide her face, not the Police.”
Other social media users have reacted to the act by the woman.
Etta. A. @pappydghiver said,
“It’s like this is the new orientation given to the Police just to bring the offenders to book. After they have provoked you, then they play the victim and boom, start recording. And they only show us the part where they are being assaulted.”
Another Twitter user, Objective Kenny @kenechuku said,
“Yes, she is wrong and the police too will be prosecuted for his own conduct if investigations shows he threatened the woman. No one is saying that the woman need to be exonerated but that if the police abused his own office, he should get punished as well”
Emm, @chibuikeigwe commented,
“See the way the officer played coy and calm while his colleague videoed the event. She doesn’t look crazy, they must have infuriated her behind camera, waited and captured her reactions on camera and since It’s all about what can be proven in court, I feel sorry for her already.”
There are growing cases of such with policemen recording the videos for prosecution evidences.
