Enugu, the capital city was in confusion Sunday evening as gunmen opened fire on the Senator Anambra South Senatorial district Ifeanyi Ubah killing about three of the security escorts attached to him.
A video of the scene shot and shown online showed many vehicles were riddled with bullets while dead bodies were inside some of them.
The Senator himself was said to have escaped with his own bulletproof vehicle.
The gunmen were said to have laid ambush for the senator at the Nkwo Enugu Ukwu
As at the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the police.
It was not clear at press time what mission the lawmaker had in the state.
Attempts to speak with the Command of the Police in Enugu State showed that information about the attacks were still scanty even to the police.
An police official of the Public Complaints Bureau of the Command who spoke with the NPO Reports said the PPRO was not available saying he too was not fully briefed of the development.
He could not confirm if the attacks had taken place on Enugu jurisdiction or not. He however promised to get back to the NPO Reports for details of the incident.
Ubah is a Nigerian billionaire who got to the senate on the platform of a relatively unknown party, the Young Peoples Party.
He contested the governorship election in his native Anambra State in the last governorship poll but lost.
