The Lagos State Government on Sunday debunked claims that a son of the State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat attended one of the rallies organized by supporters of the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party Mr. Peter Obi.
An image had surfaced and purported to be that of the son of Hamzat with claims that he joined rallies in Lagos to shore up support for Obi.
But on Sunday, the government in a statement released, said this claim was fake.
In its disclaimer, the government wrote, “
Attention of the Office of Dr. Obafemi Hamzat Lagos State, has been drawn to an online picture of an individual captioned” “The Lagos State Deputy Governor’s son Dr Obafemi Hamzat, joins the obidient rally in support of Peter Obi” which has gone viral on the social media.
For the avoidance of doubt, the gentleman in the displayed photograph is neither Dr. Obafemi Hamzat’s son nor his relative.”
The viral message is another mischievous, false and malicious attempt to cause friction between Dr Obafemi Hamzat and his admirers and loyalists across the Nation.
Dr Obafemi Hamzat has a reputation of commitment and loyalty to Jide Sanwoolu led administration and the All Progressives Congress. His support is for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima. Our party and all our supporters are working hard to ensure that our candidates get the votes of Nigerians. Ours is not about bogus statistics and lies.”
The government said any attempt to denigrate the character of the Deputy Governor and any member of his family would fail.
The government further advised supporters of Obi to get more serious with their campaigns and stop spreading falsehood.
