Obasanjo, who the author said had written many letters before in his life, had caused numerous upsets at critical times in Nigeria’s recent political history through his letters.
One of such letters was written to former Nigerian President, Late Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in the early part of his administration making it clear to him the need to scale up his performance.
Obasanjo had helped Yar’dua to power while leaving office.
“As you know, for the next few months, perhaps years, your government will be regarded as being in the penumbra of the Obasanjo regime given the situation that brought you into office.
“Against this background, you must toil to carve out a unique identity for yourself and administration. To do this, you must choose wisely your vision and the folks in your cabinet to drive the vision.” The letter read.
In another 18-paged letter, dated December 2nd, 2013 and titled, “Before it is too late,” Obasanjo had told the former President Goodluck Jonathan saying, “Nigeria is bleeding and the hemorrhage must be stopped.”
The letter had noted that Jonathan failed to deliver on his promises to the Nigerian people, to stem corruption, promote national unity and strengthen national security.
According to the former head of state, President Jonathan, who was a member of his political party, PDP, betrayed God and the Nigerian people that brought him to power, rather than take steps to advance Nigeria’s interest and up the standards of living of Nigerians.
“As a leader, two things you must cherish and hold dear among others are trust and honour both of which are important ingredients of character.
“I will want to see anyone in the Office of the Presidency of Nigeria as a man or woman who can be trusted, a person of honour in his words and character.”
He had also penned a letter to the President, Muhammadu Buhari, advising him to step down from the 2019election, saying he “needs a dignified and honourable dismount from the horse”.
“I knew President Buhari before he became President and said that he is weak in the knowledge and understanding of the economy but I thought that he could make use of good Nigerians in that area that could help.

“Although, I know that you cannot give what you don’t have and that economy does not obey military order.
“You have to give it what it takes in the short-, medium- and long-term. Then, it would move. I know his weakness in understanding and playing in the foreign affairs sector and again, there are many Nigerians that could be used in that area as well.” A part of the letter read.
