Pele’s coffin is being paraded through Santos, fans accompanying the cortège to the sound of “Pele, 1,000 goals”.
Hundreds of people waving huge banners and wearing the no 10 shirt he made so famous.
This is a day of mourning the man Brazilians call their King but it’s clearly a moment to celebrate him too.
The joy and happiness on the streets that Pele was – and will always be – Brazilians biggest source of pride.
The people of Santos are doing everything they can to catch a glimpse of Pele’s coffin as it passes through the streets. The streets along Santos beachfront are packed as Pele’s funeral procession continues.
The procession will also go past the house of Pele’s mother, 100-year-old Celeste Arantes. It will end at Santos’s Memorial Cemetery for a private burial service.
