The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke has renamed the popular Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (O-YES) after his campaign slogan, Imole De. The scheme is now to be called Imole Youth Corps.
The dissolution was contained in a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Teslim Igbalaye, quoted Adeleke as saying that the decision was taken to reposition the Youth empowerment programme inherited from the previous government for effective functionality, sustainability and dignity of labour.
“In fulfilling one of the electoral promises of His Excellency, the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke in ensuring meaningful and proper youth Engagement in the state, a new Scheme code named Imole Youth Corps is hereby put in place to engage our teeming youths in the state.
“Application forms will be available for prospective youths in all the 30 LGs including Ife East Area Office of the State FREE of charge beginning from Friday, 17th February, 2023.”, the statement noted.
Recall that O-YES was an initiative of the former governor of the state and the current Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola established to cater for 20,000 youths in the state who are on monthly stipend of 10,000. While Aregbesola served in his 8 years, the scheme recruited a total of three batches of 20,000 each.

NPO Reports recalls that after the scheme was introduce, the World Bank had recommended it to other states of the federation who came to understudy it for implementation as a way to resolve youth unemployment and restiveness in their respective states. It is believed that the YESSO, which was later established by the Federal Government took its root from the OYES.
