The Kaduna State Government on Sunday directed its agencies to continue to accept old Naira notes for payments across the states.
A statement by Muyiwa Adekeye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communications stated that the instruction was from the Governor.
In the terse statement released and made available to the NPO Reports on Sunday, Adekeye said “In line with the subsisting order of the Supreme Court the Kaduna State Government has directed all its agencies to ensure that their collection agents continue to accept payments in all denominations of the Naira , old or new.” The statement said
It went ahead to state that the “laws of Kaduna state do not allow personnel of government to be involved in the cash collection of revenues.
“The collection agents authorized by the government agencies do offer citizens a route For cash payments and are expected to comply with the subsisting court order.”
NPO Reports that the Governor of Kaduna Nasir el-Rufai has spearheaded a battle against the Federal Government deadline on the deposit of old Naira insisting that the order of the Supreme. Court made on February 8 should be respected.
President Muhammadu BUhari had last Thursday said only N200 note would now be allowed to be legal tender along with the new N1000 and N500 notes.
The president has come under heavy condemnations for alleged violations of the rule of law.
El-Rufai was one of the first three governors who dragged the Federal Government to court over the matter demanding a suspension of the new note implementation.
