Former Prime Minister of Britain, Mr. Boris Johnson, on Monday said Nigeria and his country, the United Kingdom are at a time they should collaborate to work together for the good of both countries.
Speaking as the Guest Speaker at the 16th edition of the Anyiam-Osigwe Lecture Series which held at the Marriot Hotel Lagos, Johnson said both countries are “two great democracies” which have many things in common.
Johnson listed the areas of energy especially abundant wind resources, oil and gas as areas of cooperation that could make them benefit.
He also said both Nigeria and Britain can tackle climate change crisis together.
This was just as the former Prime Minister advised the Lagos state government to look less in the direction of China for solutions to its mass transport challenges saying the London Transport system offers great opportunities for the nature mass transit for a city the size of Lagos.
Others at the event on Monday include the President Elect, Bola Tinubu who was represented by former Deputy Governor, Otunba Femi Pedro; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu who was also represented by his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
Also at the event was former Secretary of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku.
Johnson said, “Now is the time to the UK and Nigeria, two great democracies with so much history in common to do more together.
“We should be tackling climate change together, the technologies that this already knew one of the greatest producers of offshore wind.
“I never believed it because when we now produce more off shore than any other country in the world, more than Saudi Arabia off shore wind. Nigeria could be our new base as well as a massive producer of oil and gas.”
