Astha Rajvanshi, a journalist covering international news has locked her twitter account, @astharajvanshi as a result of the unending attacks apparently from those who have disagreed with the listing of the former Lagos State Governor as one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2023.
A TIME magazine Staff Writer who authored the story of the Nigeria’s president elect, Bola Tinubu’s entry into the publication’s 100 Most Influential People for 2023 has come under severe attacks.
Astha Rajvanshi, a journalist covering international news has locked her twitter account, @astharajvanshi as a result of the unending attacks apparently from those who have disagreed with the listing of the former Lagos State Governor as one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2023.
Though, Rajvanshi acknowledged allegations and disputes that have trailed Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential poll, her trolls have ignored that fact and condemned the choice of Tinubu on what they consider to a list for leaders around the globe.
“Winning an election in Africa’s most populous country is no easy feat. But Nigeria’s newly elected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has had nearly two decades to prepare. Called Jagaban, or “leader of the warriors,” by his supporters, the now 71-year-old ran in a presidential election for the first time this March. His campaign slogan, “It’s my turn,” was a nod to his role as a longtime political power broker. Tinubu helped restore the country’s democracy in 1999 after fighting military rule and then served two consecutive terms as governor of Lagos,” she had penned in her write up on Tinubu
She went further to state that the election was disputed by writing “But Tinubu’s win with the ruling All Progressives Congress Party came ina fraught election and by a slim marginover Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. It was the first timeNigerian voters contended with a third-party candidate, and many discontented young Nigerians yearning for change pinned their hopes on Obi. Marred by allegations of intimidation and vote rigging, the outcome of the ballot is being challenged in court.”
However, not all that would appease those who have vehemently rejected the presence of Tinubu on the list.
Condemning the development, former Aviation Minister and Director of the New Media of the Presidential Campaign Council, Femi Fani-Kayode, has alleged that the attacks on the TIME’s correspondent are mostly from supporters of the candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi.
He said the attacks have portrayed Obi’s supporters as intolerant of opposing views adding that this is why they are called Fascists.
He wrote, “Given this, can anyone dispute it when we call the Obidiots and members of the Obidati cult nothing but vicious and murderous fascists who are incapable of accommodating a plurality of views? They will go down in Nigerian history as the most savage, ignorant and depraved bunch of totalitarian nincompoops that our politics has ever known.
“Peter and Dati the Daft have spawned an army of savage and uncontrollable barbarians and instead of attempting to reign them in they are openly encouraging them and commending them for attacking, insulting and tormenting those that do not share their views. Must we wait until they start to slaughter and butcher our people and subject them to crimes against humanity, mass murder, ethnic cleansing and genocide before we recognise them for what they are, call them to order, resist them and bring them to justice? Nigeria has never witnessed such a vicious, evil, toxic, psychotic, delusional and dangerous gathering of violent and beastly totalitarian savages in her politics in our entire history. Give them power and they will end Nigeria. Those that say we should “slow down” and “take it easy” with the savages still do not know what we are dealing with. They are evil and we shall not rekebt on our struggle to oppose them and expose them for who and what they are.”
