Speaker of the Abia state house of assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, has been impeached.
NPOReports gathered that, the impeachment was carried out by 18 out of 27 members of the Assembly who sat at an emergency meeting.
Chukwudi Apugo, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing the Umuahia-east state constituency, was said to have moved the motion for Orji’s impeachment and seconded by Okey Igwe of the PDP, who is representing Umunneochi Constituency.
The speaker was impeached on the allegations of gross misconduct and highhandedness.
The impeached speaker, is the son of Theodore Orji, former governor of Abia.
Orji, a member of the PDP, lost his re-election bid to represent Ikwuano/Umuahia-north/Umuahia-south federal constituency in the lower legislative chamber.
He was defeated by Obi Aguocha, candidate of the Labour Party.
