The eighth batch of Nigerians evacuated from Sudan has arrived in the federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja.
NIDCOM made the announcement in a statement on Monday.
On Sunday, 424 Nigerians were evacuated from Egypt and arrived at about 12:30 pm in Nigeria via Azman and Tarco Airlines.
The evacuees were the sixth and seventh batches that arrived in the country since the evacuation exercise started on May 3.
According to NiDCOM, the eighth batch included 129 nationals that departed Port Sudan International Airport and landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 9:25 am local time on May 8 via Tarco Air.
“So far, a total of 1,600 evacuees have returned home.
“The good news is, no Nigerian life has been lost so far,” NiDCOM added.
Addressing journalists, NEMA’s Director of Special Duties, Dr Onimode Abdullahi Bandele, said over 1000 Nigerians are still stuck in the war-torn country and plans are underway to evacuate them as soon as possible.
NiDCOM had earlier assured that about 1,700 remaining Nigerians in Sudan would be evacuated in a matter of days.
