The Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday broke its silence over the political crisis that broke out in Rivers state on Sunday leading to protests in the state capital, PortHarcourt. The National Working Committee of the party, in a statement y Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary, said the NWC has instructed all parties concerned in the state to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign.
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) calls on all actors in the disagreement in Rivers State to sheathe their swords and allow for peaceful and amicable resolution of all the issues,” the statement appealed
It explained that the party’s highest body has opened resolution using what it called the Party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms to ensure that all matters and areas of disagreement are addressed.
“The NWC therefore charges all leaders, critical stakeholders and members of our great Party in Rivers State to close ranks, unite and focus on the onerous task of governance and delivery of dividends of democracy to the people,” it concluded in its statement.
NPO Reports that the crisis between the Governor, Sim Fubara and his godfather, Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, boiled over on Sunday as some hoodlums stormed the House of Assembly burning a part of it. It was learnt that the move was to prevent an impeachment process targeted at removing Fubara.
