The Amnesty International has on Sunday said that Nigerian governments at all levels have continued to condone violation of human rights.
The organisation called for implementations of the findings of the various investigative panels that probed the October 20, 2020 police brutality protests called ENDSARS.
Amnesty International made the call on the occasion of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In its post on the X handle on Sunday, Amnesty said “Nigeria continues to face worsening human rights crises nationwide. Nigerian government consistently failed to end decades of human rights violations and pervasive impunity.”
The organisation also called on the Nigerian authorities to fully implement findings of the investigation of the killings of peaceful #EndSARS protesters by the military and police at Lekki Toll Gate on 20 October 2020.
On the tragic bombing of civilians in Tundun Biri village in Kaduna state last week, Amnesty had said that the Nigerian authorities “must promptly, thoroughly, independently, impartially, transparently and effectively investigate the killing of more than 120 civilians in two military air strikes, instead of engaging in attempts to cover up the crime.”
“The global rights body said Nigerian military’s recklessness is a result of the authorities’ consistent failure to hold them to account for a long list of such atrocities. “These unlawful killings of civilians cannot be swept under the carpet,” the group said
