A former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan Reno Omokri has described as insensitive President Bola Tinubu’s outings in Lagos against the background of the mood of the country.
Omokri, who in recent times, has applauded many of the steps and policies of the President, expressed worry that with the recent massacre in Plateau state, the President ought to have shown more restraints in his public engagements.
In a tweet via his verified X handle, Omokri said when Tinubu does well, he will commend him and wherever he shows less of leadership, he will be quick to chastise him.
“Perhaps President Tinubu could have been a bit less ostentatious in his celebratory mood today, after Jum’ah prayers, given the mood of the nation arising from the massacre of Nigerians in Plateau State.
“The optics do not look good,” he wrote
He said Tinubu should have declared at least seven days of national mourning, fly the flag at half mast, and then use his first public appearance after the tragedy to give a minute silence for the victims and then go about his end-of-year activities.
He added, “Today’s outing by President Tinubu could be misconstrued as being too flashy. Like a rock star preening himself for the paparazzi. It was definitely triumphalist.
“They were not the actions expected of a man in charge of a nation where over a hundred citizens had just been slaughtered. “The President could have been more sensitive and should have displayed empathy.
“If you do well, we will commend you. But if you act in a manner that is less than expected, we will condemn you.
“You have been doing well, Mr. President. But this does not sit well with me.”
