A group of selected ten National Youths Service Corp (NYSC) Members are set to represent Nigeria at this year’s independence celebration in India.
This was revealed in a post on the scheme’s X handle (formerly Twitter) earlier today.
According to the scheme, the Corp member’s are billed to participate in a Youth Exchange Programme organized by the Indian National Cadet Corps.
The programme which was organized in commemoration of India’s independence anniversary would see the Corp members meet with participants across the globe.
“Ten Corps Members are billed to travel to the Republic of India on Sunday to participate in a Youth Exchange Programme organized by the Indian National Cadet Corps.
“The programmre is held annually in commemoration of the Independence Anniversary of the Republic of India, drawing participants from Europe, Asia, Africa and other continents.” The post read.
Addressing the Corp members in a pre-departure briefing at Indian High Commission in Abuja, NYSC Director General, Brigadier-General YD Ahmed, lauded Asian nation’s gesture of inviting the scheme to partake in the programme.
While describing the invitation as an opportunity for the participants to understand the socio-economic similarities and differences between both countries, Ahmed admonished the Corp members to be of good conduct in line with the Core Values of the Scheme.
In the same vein, India High Commissioner in Nigeria, Shri G Balasubramanian, noted that Nigeria and India shared several things in common, especially their huge population and multi-cultural settings.
He stressed that the exchange programme would enable the Corp members to showcase Nigeria’s culture at the event, which would be attended by youths from other countries.
