A former Governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has said that he gets a sum of N577,000 monthly as pension from the state government.
Fashola, NPO Reports recalls, served as the Governor of Lagos state from 2007 to 2015. He thereafter went ahead to serve as Minister in the cabinet of former President Muhammadu Buhari for 8 years.
Speaking on an Arise TV programme, Perspectives, Fashola said though there are many stories of billions of Naira being peddled around, he can categorically say all he gets monthly is a sum of N577,000 monthly.
“The benefit I get I think is N577,000 monthly pension from Lagos State. That’s all I get,” Fashola said.
“So, in spite of all the stories that we got several billions of money (after leaving office), I’ve come out to deny that repeatedly.
“Well I don’t know how long it lasts, but all I know is that I get N577,000 per month consistently.” Fashola also urged Nigerians to be more optimistic about the country’s prospects and separate the government from the country.
He said, “When the government disappoints us, it is not our country that has let us down, but the elite and elected leaders. We shouldn’t throw our country under the bus because we are angry with our politicians.”
