The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday distributed sensitive materials for Saturday’s re-run elections in 46 polling units in Sokoto State.
The re-run would hold in Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency and Bodinga, Tambuwal state constituencies.
Mrs Hauwa Kangiwa, the state INEC Administrative Secretary, who inspected the materials alongside other stakeholders, reassured of free, fair and credible election.
She said that all arrangements had been finalised to dispatch the sensitive materials to respective local government areas for distribution to polling units,
Kangiwa said that adequate security measures had been taken to ensure hitch-free and smooth exercise.
“We have been given assurance by the security agencies to deploy enough personnel.
“No fewer than 15 policemen are expected to oversee each polling unit,” she said.
Kangiwa said that all election equipment were in good working condition with contingencies in place to address any unforeseen eventuality.
Meanwhile, the commission has started the distribution of sensitive materials to two registration areas for Saturday’s re-run election in Kankara/Faskari/Sabuwa Federal Constituency of Katsina State.
The election would be conducted in Garagi and Daudawa registration areas in Kankara and Faskari Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the constituency.
The materials distributed included BVAS, ballot papers, result sheets, voters’ register, among others.
They were handed over to the Electoral Officers of Kankara and Faskari, Yunusa Audu and Ahmed Yaluwa, in the presence of security agents, party representatives and the media.
The state INEC Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Shehu Sa’idu, told newsmen after the distribution, that the election would be conducted in 40 poling units of the two LGAs.
He added that four polling units were in Daudawa registration area of Faskari, while 16 were in Garagi, Kankara LGA.
Sa’idu assured of adequate security arrangements for the of the electorate safety and a hitch free election.
He also said that the commission was determined to conduct credible re-run election in the registration areas.
Registered Voters in all the affected polling units was 10,659, while the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected were 10,652.
