The operations of the special investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu to probe the affairs of the Central Bank of Nigeria under the former Governor Godwin Emefiele has been wound up.
This is consequent upon the conclusion of the assignment of the panel headed by former boss of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, Mr. Jim Obaze.
The Special Investigator’s assignment was said to have been officially concluded on March 31 this year after months of unearthing what transpired under the Emefiele regime at the apex bank.
The Special Investigator of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other related entities, was appointed on July 28, 2023.
“The President commends Mr. Obazee for the dedication and professionalism he exercised in handling the complexities of this critical national assignment,” said a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media Friday afternoon.
He said with conclusion of the assignment and the submission of a final comprehensive report, and with the winding up of all apparatuses used during the scope of the task which terminated on March 31, 2024, “the investigation is formally closed, with all appropriate law enforcement and regulatory agencies already conducting follow-up action.”
He quoted the President as expressing appreciation to Obazee for answering the call of duty while wishing him success in his future endeavours.
