Manchester City has started off yet another title defense campaign with a comfortable 2-0 away win against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge yesterday.
The English Premier League champions picked off from where they left as faced Chelsea in a tough league opener.
Pep Guardiola’s men would, however, start the 2024/2025 campaign on a brighter note as Norwegian striker, Erling Haaland put them in an early lead in the 18th minute.
Chelsea tried to pull a leveller before the end of first half, but Nicholas Jackson’s effort was ruled offside.
The game would advance to the second half with Enzo Maresca-led Blues searching for an equalizer.
The London side were unable to break through Man City’s watertight defense as Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson denied Jackson yet another chance in the 62nd minute.
Former Chelsea midfielder, Mateo Kovacic, would, however, seal the win for Manchester City with a solo effort after breaking through Chelsea midfield duo, Enzo Fernandez and Moise Caicedo, to latch home City’s second of the game in the 84th minute.
