The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) has, on Wednesday, intercepted a petrol tanker transporting vegetable oil at Apapa area of Lagos.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on the agency’s X handle with a video clip of the seized tanker.
As seen in the video, a NAFDAC official narrated how the interception was made.
Officials of the agency had, reportedly, followed a tip off and trailed the tanker which had both water and beverages tag as well as petrol and diesel tag- a red flag that triggered the escort of the tanker to its processing facility in Sango Ota.
“That’s exactly what triggered that red flag because that credible information told us that the same tanker used in loading vegetable oil has been used or were being used for petroleum products.
“This is a public health issue that requires immediate attention and that was why we went to the area. We caught the truck being loaded.”
While disclosing that the recovered crude vegetable oil has been handed over to the agency’s Southwest Zonal office, NAFDAC urged the public to report any suspicious practices as it relates to food.
